en-us (5 points) Yes, to answer your question I have personally been there before more than once. I developed feelings for one of my friends. So I tried to get some insight from one of my female friends "What should I do if I like a girl that I am friends with?" She then replied "The best thing to do is ask the girl out on an official date." And I then asked "But what if she says no? won't that affect our friendship?" She then told me "afterwards just pretend like you never asked her to begin with, it will only affect your friendship if you let it." It was some of the best advice I have gotten. Although after going out on a date with this girl and it ending up not working out due to a chemistry problem, we still remained friends. Though it is different for many people, my friend's parents were friends for 5 years before they started dating and they ended up getting married. I personally could not date one of my very close girl friends, because I feel once a friendship reaches a certain point with the opposite sex there is no return. Due to that fact,I stopped looking at them as the opposite sex and began seeing them as gender neutral. It is also a well known fact with all animal species that males act differently when trying to attract females. This can be hindered when meeting a woman under different circumstances therefore the outcome is normally different and can make the relationship lead more towards friendship. Personal attraction can also lead towards friendship as well. As for the other part of your question "Why are we all so reserved sometimes when it comes to relationships?" I once read a novel that gave me great advice "Who moved my chess?" It deals with the fact of people not liking change and often being afraid of it. People are subject to routines and often feel comfortable living there daily lives with nothing ever changing, even if they are unhappy. When starting a new relationship there is no routine, and this can be exciting and scary all at the same time. People often stray from this which is why it can take a couple to times to break up with someone your so use to, there smell, touch and sexual attributes even though the relationship isn't working for some reason, your are drawing back to them because it is familiar. As for the answer to all there remarks "The timing isn't right" " I don't want to hurt you" "You are going to hurt me" "I can't give you what you deserve" "I don't want to ruin this friendship". I'm sure some of them are copouts. There are many factors that are at play here depending on the person, whether there sexual nature can past can and will play a major roll here. For example if the guy is major player he would never want to cheat on his best friend due to fact that he would never want to hurt her. Or just not want to be scene in the average everyday light. You could also take into account if this has happened before, has he ever dated one of you best friends and it ended badly? One could be using all though lines to avoid the major problem, but I'm sure not all of those lines are copouts. I for one have used those lines before, due to the fact that I'm a senior in college and honestly for me "The timing isn't right." To wrap it up, I would just like to point out one more thing, you must also take into account the reason for why people in general use copouts. Many people often do it to just avoid argument, people hate confrontation and will do almost anything to avoid it. Confrontation is unpleasant and no one wants to endure anything unpleasant.
